Vacancy: Embedded Electronics Lead Engineer

 

Teddington Systems is offering a unique opportunity for a talented and experienced
Embedded Electronics Lead Engineer within our Technical Engineering Team, which
forms part of the Teddington Engineering, Design and Development department, based here
St Austell, Cornwall, U.K. We are looking for someone who enjoys a combination of
hardware and embedded software design with a passion to bring to life our future products in
both existing and new category areas.

Teddington Electronics is a company specialising in control systems with a diverse range of

Research team aims to exploit this knowledge to design state-of-the-art products, allowing
us to differentiate ourselves from the competition. The successful applicant will be part of the
team designing the next generation of electronic systems for our products in control
systems.


About The Role

The embedded electronics role will involve:

  • Creating embedded software designs on microcontroller systems.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards.
  • Solving any embedded software issues received from current clientele
  • Building demonstration rigs to convey ideas to others.
  • Producing schematic, PCB layouts with BOM’s for manufacturing.
  • Working on multiple, concurrent projects, supported by several team members all reporting to the Project Manager for the team.
  • Collaborating with different product teams to gain an in-depth product understanding,

 

A Successful Applicant Will Be Expected To

Lead the team to deliver key project deliverables as agreed by the team in the planning phase.

  • Highly focused on delivering project deliverables according to pre-agreed deadlines and cost.
  • Developing the concept, proving key technologies, and demonstrating the system feasibility.
  • Produce clear, well written documentation supporting the project development phase.
  • Demonstrate the final product is robust, cost effective and fit for purpose for a high-volume manufacture environment, through detailed laboratory testing, simulation, and analysis.
  • Willing to travel within the UK and Overseas when required to meet customers and suppliers.

 

About You

Education and experience:

BEng / BTech degree (or equivalent) in Embedded Electronic Engineering, or other relevant discipline, or a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.

Core Software Design

  • Experience of C/C++/PIC programming for embedded systems.
  • Use of Matlab or Python for data acquisition and analysis.
  • Digital signal processing experience.

Digital Hardware Design

You should ideally have experience in the following areas:

  • High knowledge of microcontrollers and microprocessor technologies, preferably including ARM Cortex M series.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of serial interfaces (e.g., I2C, SPI, UART, USB, I2S).
  • Experience with FPGAs is desirable.
  • Analogue and digital hardware design:

Design Techniques

  • Circuit simulation and design tolerance analysis.
  • Robust design including FMEA techniques.
  • Good quality engineering process understanding and appreciation.
  • PCB layout - size/cost minimisation while achieving layouts for inherently good compliance and thermal design.

Essential Behavioural Skills

  • Good analytical ability and attention to detail.
  • Able to use initiative to drive project tasks forward and take responsibility for delivering assigned tasks on a project.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Effective communicator; appropriate, concise, and accurate information in written and verbal format to engineers.
  • Adaptable and able to generate imaginative and innovative ideas, in line with core Teddington Systems values.
  • Excellent team working skills.

Essential Practical Skills

  • Ability to design, build, test, and modify firmware accurately, safely and with minimal supervision.
